Joining the Club

The CMC is a fully inclusive club, accepting climbers of all abilities - including complete beginners. Junior members (under 18s) are welcome; however, they must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian who is a full member of The CMC (The cost of a junior membership is £32.00).

Before joining, we encourage all prospective members to do the following:

  1. Contact us by dropping our Chairman an email via contact@the-cmc.co.uk

  2. Once contacted, come and meet us at one of our indoor evening club meets: Tuesday at Rock Hub, Basildon or Thursday at The Lock, Harlow.

  3. After meeting and climbing with us and completing any necessary Learn to Climb courses, we will ask you to complete our membership form and pay your fees.

To climb at the walls, you will need to either pass the wall safety tests (tying in and belaying safely) or be accompanied by a competent and registered climber who will supervise you. More information on this can be found on our Climbing Course advice page.

Membership and Benefits

Club subscriptions are £38.00 for the year’s membership, and this includes your British Mountaineering Council club membership. Junior memberships are £32.00.

With our BMC club affiliation, all of our members receive personal liability insurance, as well as gear discounts in a range of outdoor stores. See all the benefits of joining our club on the membership application page.

We meet twice a week for indoor climbing (with discounted member’s rates) and run outdoor meets most months of the year - the full list of upcoming meets can be found on our meets page.

In addition to our ‘official’ club meets, members are always organising their own trips to local crags or further afield and joining the club is a great way to get involved.

We also organise social meets which range from the annual End of Year Social, to exclusive Pizza nights at our local walls. These are great events where you can get to know everyone and hone your knowledge for the great outdoors!
